Modern percussive drilling systems rely on high-frequency stress waves traveling down the drill string. The kinetic energy of the drill rig's piston is transferred via the shank adapter, through the couplings and extension rods, directly to the drill bit. Any variation in the cross-sectional area or metallurgical density of these components causes partial wave reflection, resulting in energy loss and increased stress on the threads.

To resist both impact fatigue and abrasive wear, rock drilling consumables require a hard outer case paired with a tough, ductile core. We use high-alloy structural steel as our base material. This steel undergoes a computer-controlled carburizing heat treatment process that infuses carbon deep into the outer surface layer.
The configuration of tungsten carbide buttons on the face of the drill bit directly affects both the rate of penetration (ROP) and the hole straightness. For granite, spherical or ballistic buttons made of YG11C or similar cobalt-optimized carbide grades are selected.
